Dayspring Health recently celebrated a historic milestone — 50 years of serving the communities of rural Appalachia through compassionate, accessible healthcare.
Founded in 1976, Dayspring Health has spent the last five decades growing from a small community clinic into a comprehensive healthcare organization serving thousands of patients across the region. Throughout its history, the organization has remained committed to its mission of ensuring quality healthcare is available to all, regardless of a person’s ability to pay.
During the organization’s 50th Anniversary All Staff Banquet, staff reflected on the legacy of care, service, and hope that has defined Dayspring Health for generations.
Under the theme “Clinic of Choice. Employer of Choice. A Community of Hope,” the event highlighted the tremendous growth and impact the organization has made throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. Today, Dayspring Health provides integrated medical, dental, behavioral health, and pediatric services to underserved rural communities that often face significant barriers to healthcare access.
Dr. David McRay shared reflections on the early years of the organization and the vision that helped establish a foundation for community-centered healthcare in the region. Dr. Geogy Thomas, CEO of Dayspring Health, spoke about the future of rural healthcare and the organization’s continued efforts to innovate and expand services for the communities it serves.
The evening also recognized several individuals and partners whose leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on Dayspring Health and the communities it serves.
The Community Partner Award honored a community partner whose collaboration and support have helped strengthen healthcare access and improve the lives of patients throughout the region. This award was given to Pharma Strategies.
The McRay Award, presented by Dr. James Killian, recognizes an individual who exemplifies extraordinary dedication to the mission, values, and heart of Dayspring Health. This award was given to Keven Jeffers, PA-C.
Walker Awards were presented in both administration and clinical care, recognizing team members who demonstrate excellence, compassion, leadership, and a commitment to serving others through their work each day. Our administrative Walker Award winner was Danielle Higginbotham, Dental Operations Manager. The Clinical Walker Award was presented to Amy Padgett, LPN.
Over the last 50 years, Dayspring Health has continued to evolve to meet the growing needs of the community — expanding services, opening new facilities, investing in innovative models of care, and reaching patients where they are. From pediatric care and behavioral health to dental services and community outreach, the organization continues to stand in the gap for rural families across the region.
“Fifty years ago, our health center was founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of income or circumstance. What began as a small effort to meet healthcare needs in Appalachia has grown into a movement, serving thousands of patients each year. While much has changed, our mission remains the same — caring for people with compassion, dignity, and excellence.” said Dr. Geogy Thomas.
“As I looked around the banquet room, I was reminded that our greatest strength is our people. Every employee plays a vital role in the care we provide, and I am deeply grateful for the dedication and compassion our staff shows every day. “
Dayspring Health looks ahead to the next chapter of service with a continued commitment to strengthening healthcare access and improving the health of the communities it serves.
